Simple Portable CD Book

I’ve collected CDs for a very long time, and often create sleeves for the ones I burn. It was when my dad gave me his Walkman for my birthday that it hit that I should probably make a book! (Especially with buyable cd books becoming increasingly rarer)

My goal was to make it as light weight and portable as possible, and with materials I already had at home

and here she is! My little bag sized cd book

Supplies

Paper of some sort

Pens/pencils/textas

CD case

Gluestick

Hole punch

String

Stapler (optional)

Creating the Pattern

  1. Start by tracing a CD case (plastic cases will work too) onto a FOLDED piece of scrap paper (as you would with a sewing pattern)
  2. Extend the size by adding 2cm to the sides, and 3cm to the top
  3. Cut and unfold your pattern
  4. On the crease, cut your 2cm mark on both sides, and fold all 4 flaps in
  5. Fold in half, and cut off the added 3cm ON ONE SIDE ONLY (this will create an envelope flap)
  6. Your template is done

Creating the Envelopes

  1. Copy your template onto the paper you wish to use. I used music, but newspaper, magazines, cardstock, printer paper, and so on are all usable. I made 10.
  2. Glue your envelopes into place, making sure not to glue the flap
  3. Leave glue to dry under a heavy book
  4. You have envelopes!
  5. This step is optional, but I chose to glue the backs of the envelopes together to make them all double sided

Binding and Finishing

  1. Make sure all sides are even and facing the same direction, and clip your stack together (avoid using paper clips, as they can leave indents)
  2. Hole punch your stack. Make the holes about a cm from the bottom (make sure not to clip the edge like I did)
  3. Use your string to bind the pages together. You can find lots of useful tutorials online for this, or you can wing it like I did
  4. Insert your CDs!

Now you have a little CD booklet that you can use in the home, car, and around and about !
