I decided to make a pair of night vision goggles using a Raspberry Pi so that I can use it playing Airsoft.

Supplies

Raspberry Pi

Power bank (preferably 3amps)

FPV goggles with AV input (screen removed from goggles - see picture) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08SWH2Q83?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Night vision camera for Raspberry Pi

SD card (minimum 16gb with Raspberry Pi OS)

Helping hands - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08JCCB6R6?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Decorations I used (not necessary)

inert bullets

bullet holders (the black metal things on the back of the helmet - see picture)

Flashlight (optional)

Components

Source all the components. Some of which like the Pi, the camera and the helemt I had already.

The rest I sourced form various places like local surplus shops and online retailers.

Initial Idea

I first thought about attaching the googles to my helmet as you see them in the photos. But that would have been too cumbersome. So I decided to take the screen out of the goggles and put them on a helping hand which meant I could still night vision while walking around normally.

Gluing Items to Helmet

Hot glue all the items listed above onto the helmet.

Add any decorations you like.

Code and Finished Product

The following code is what I used to activate the night vision goggles. The hf - vf part flips the camera so that it is the right way round.

raspistill -t 0 -hf -vf
