Organizing a School Backpack
These instructions is a simple, effective way to organize a school backpack so that everything is easy to find and protected throughout the day.
Supplies
You will need a backpack along with all of the supplies you need for school or work. In this case I have some notebooks, pens, computer, Ipad, and Charging cords.
Empty and Clean
Pull everything from the backpack. Make sure to check every pocket for papers or other supplies. If there are crumbs in your bag shake it over a trash can to make sure it is completely clean and empty. Some backpacks carry hidden compartments, make sure to check these as well.
Sorting
Take the supplies that was pulled from you backpack and sort it into piles. One pile that needs to go back into the bag and one that can be thrown away or stored elsewhere.
Remove Unnecessary Items
Take out all waste paper, trash, or broken supplies that are no longer used. Dispose of these items or if the item is still useful someplace else move those items to a designated location away from the backpack.
Organize Papers
Organize papers and handouts into designated folders to reduce confusion. This will prevent papers from crumbling or being damaged in day to day use.
Heavy Item Placement
Organize your heaviest items in the main compartment. The heaviest items should be closest to your back to make the backpack more balanced. In this case the laptop is the heaviest item.
Secure Electronics
Place all laptops and electronics in a safe pocket by itself. If your backpack has straps secure those around the electronics to keep them safe.
Add Notebooks and Folder
Place notebooks and folders in front of or alongside textbooks so they remain flat and easy to access.
Wrap Wires and Cords
Wrap all charges and cords so that they do not get tangled with other supplies or cords keeping them safe and easy to pull out.
Use Smaller Pockets for Smaller Items
In these small pockets place your cords, pencils, pens, calculators, etc. This keeps small items organized and easy to find. Some backpacks have designated locations for small items. For example my bag has specific spots for pens.
Zip Up Bag
Zip up the bag once all items are placed inside. Make sure to leave zippers at the very top of the bag so it is easy to access and no time is wasted finding the zippers. Some bags also have clips, make sure these clips are in place and securely fastened for daily use.
Final Result
Your backpack is now lighter, organized, and balanced correctly for easy day to day use.
