I've modified a regular Maglite AA to fit a 1W LED.

Supplies

Tools:

  1. pliers
  2. soldering iron

Material:

  1. 1 AA size Maglite
  2. 1W SMD COB (LED)
  3. pin headers
  4. large nail
  5. 3d Printer or any foam, wood or plastic part the size of an AA battery

For this you need a 1W SMD COB-Emitter and solder bent pin headers (that I had lying around) to each side.

You then need to widen the reflector. In my case I enlarged it with a step drill bit to 10mm.

Put it all together. It works with 2x 1,5v AA batteries or with one 3,7V 14500 LiIon Battery, for which you need to print an adaptor to fill the space in the Maglite. (see attached file). Put a nail through the dummy and cut it at the correct length

Now you have a super bright Maglite
