Cityscape Light Show

I made this art project with an artist whom I have known for a few years, Glary WU. With her permission, I decided to share the process in Instructables.

1. Transparent sheet
2. Markers
3. Foam board (not shown but use the kind in package cushioning)
4. Sketch paper to come up with the drawings (optional)
5. A bit of drawing skills
6. Images from a specific source (e.g. a hike in the past, Google Earth, etc)
7. Flashlight
8. A white or light-coloured surface

Ms. Glary had us find familiar places on Google Earth’s Street View. I decided to add an unique twist to this project by using overseas images from Stockholm and Oslo (I live in Asia). I’ve been to these two cities and I have to say that they are amazing, but that’s another story. You can also gather the images from other sources, such as visits to certain places.

Use markers to draw the images, preferably in your own style, on the transparent board. It can be simple or complicated, any skill level or style will do.

Cut the drawing (the stick person is a sample) and leave two sharp tips at the bottom. They should not be blunt, because you have to use them to pierce into the foam board later on.

Put the drawings into the board surface.

Shine the flashlight to project the drawings onto a white (or light-coloured) surface. The result should be like this. I hope you enjoy this project!
