Best Kindle for Eyes

This instructable is an attempt to answer questions:

- What is the best Kindle for reading

- Why is better to read books on an ebook reader than on a tablet or laptop

Your eyes might get tired easily if you stare for long periods at a laptop, smartphone, or another digital screen. You force your eyes to work harder than usual as they strain to focus on tiny words on the screen and the blue light can be bothersome. Doctors have a name for this: computer vision syndrome.

This digital eye strain problem affects most people who use digital gadgets with LCD (liquid crystal display) screens. A person who looks at screens two or more hours in a row every day has a big risk of this condition and trends are that people will spend more time looking at displays of various gadgets. LCD displays on computers, laptops tablets, and smartphones strain eyes more than reading print material.

Anything that requires intense eye use can cause fatigue, especially reading for a prolonged time. Reading text from the laptop or other LCD displays in places that are too dim or too bright might make your fatigue even worse. This fatigue develops due to the extended use of the muscles that control your eye movements and your pupils. There are a number of muscles that help you focus your eyes on text and like any other muscles, they can become exhausted, resulting in eye fatigue.

People tend to blink less often when looking at a computer screen, which can result in dry, tired, and burning eyes. Blinking naturally refreshes the eyes.

Adults aren't the only ones affected by digital eye strain. Kids who stare at tablets or computers for long periods can have issues, too.

There are a number of useful strategies you can use to relieve digital eye strain:

-taking brief breaks when reading

-adjusting better contrast and brightness on your computer screen

-choosing bigger font size

- using proper ambient lighting to maximize illumination while minimizing glare,

-blinking a few extra times

However, the best strategy to relieve a digital eye strain is to get an e-book reader. Reading books on an e-book reader is like reading a real book. E-book readers are far less harmful to the eyes than tablets and laptops because they use special e-ink screens, while iPad and other tablets use LCD screens.

You can download and store thousands of ebooks in a single e-reader.

There are three major brands of e-readers: Kindle, Kobo, and Nook.

The most popular e-reader brand in the USA is Kindle from Amazon. Fire tablet is also a device that is designed and sold by Amazon.

Best Kindle

The only function of e-readers is to read books and they do it very well. They make the reading of digital books as easy on the eyes as the reading of paper books.

Kindle e-readers are devices for text-only textbooks such as traditional fictional books. For a college instructional textbook, which usually comes with a lot of color pictures, you will need a tablet. You can also read PDF files on a tablet.

In addition to the line of ebook readers, Amazon also offers three models of Fire tablets but Amazon tablets are not as good as iPad or Samsung tablets. Amazon is much more successful in the design of ebook readers than in the design of tablets.

There are three models of Kindle e-readers:

- Kindle basic model

- Kindle Paperwhite

- Kindle Oasis 3

There are several factors to consider when choosing the best Kindle e-reader that is good for your eyes. These are the main factors we consider in our reviews during a Kindle comparison.

Screen

All e-readers use E-ink screen technology. E-ink (electronic ink) is a monochrome display with excellent sunlight readability. E-ink screens are low-power and paper-like displays used primarily in e-book readers.

E ink readers are very popular due to their likeness to printed materials on paper. Besides being considered as much easier on the reader’s eyes than other screen types, e-ink screens also have lower power consumption, when compared to conventional LCD screens.

Electronic ink technology has several advantages over current display technology, including:

• Low power usage

• Flexibility

• Readability

These advantages caused e ink screens to dominate the e-book reader market. E-ink technology has radically changed the way we read books. Since E-Ink display technology aims to replicate the appearance of ink printed on paper, most of these displays are only capable of displaying black and white.

Kindle Oasis comes with a large screen - 7 inches.

Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle basic models come with a screen size of 6 inches.

Display resolution

Kindle Oasis comes with the best resolution and contrast to date – 300 PPI (pixels per inch). That means that texts are incredibly sharp and readable. Amazon claims that Kindle Oasis’s display looks and feels like reading a sheet of laser-printed paper. In my opinion, this is one of the best features of Kindle Oasis because the screen experience matters more than anything else.

Kindle Paperwhite has the same resolution as Kindle Oasis.

Kindle basic model has a much lower resolution of – only 167 PPI. When you compare resolution 167 PPI to resolution 300 PPI, you see a noticeable difference. Reading on the Kindle budget model (resolution 167 PPI) is like reading on an old computer screen whereas reading on Kindle Oasis 3 or Kindle Paperwhite feels like reading a real piece of paper. Kindle basic model is the cheapest Kindle.

Battery life

E-reader only uses power when it turns pages, while LCD display requires constant power to keep the contents of the screen. That means a battery in an e-reader can last for a long time on a single charge.

The battery life on all three Kindle devices is excellent. The battery can last up to 6 weeks based on 30 minutes of reading per day. Battery life depends on front light settings, use of Bluetooth for audible books, and use of Wi-Fi. Conclusion

As we mentioned in the introduction, Kindle Oasis is currently the best Kindle for reading. It is also the most expensive Kindle.

Kindle Paperwhite is the best compromise of great e-reader and affordable price.

Best Kindle for Reading in the Sun

Kindle-Oasis.jpg

Front lighting is a very useful feature because it helps to adjust a screen contrast when reading outside in the sun. Outdoor reading on digital devices becoming more popular. Paperwhite and Oasis are waterproof, so more people can bring them to the beach.

New Kindle Oasis uses 25 LEDs, while the Kindle Paperwhite uses five LEDs and the new Kindle basic model uses four LEDs.

Front light splays more uniformly across the display of Kindle Oasis. Only on Oasis, the front light automatically adjusts to perfect brightness depends on the time of day and ambient light intensity. Users can adjust it manually as well.

One of the major improvements in Kindle Oasis is an adjustable front light that can be fine-tuned from cold white to warm amber. Oasis has 12 white LEDs and 13 amber LEDs which allows the screen to shift to an amber tone.

All three Kindle models have a built-in lighting feature that lets you read in the dark. All three Kindle models use LEDs (light-emitting diode) mounted along the inner sides of the display that shine light across a thin layer of translucent plastic. This way the light is evenly distributed across the surface of the reader.

Best Kindle for Seniors

Kindle e-readers are designed for people of all ages: kids, adults, and the elderly. What is the best Kindle for seniors doesn’t have to be the best Kindle for the kids?

Older people prefer to read text with bigger letters. They also prefer e-readers with a brighter screens. There is less strain for the eyes of older people when they read text with a bigger font size. Also, they have less fatigue when they read a textbook from the screen with higher resolution.

Seniors use Kindle e reader mostly for reading books and newspapers. They rarely use all fancy features and apps of top-rated e-readers such as Kindle Oasis.

Therefore, the best Kindle for older people is Kindle Paperwhite. Kindle Paperwhite has a sliding scale of font size-changing font size on Paperwhite is similar to how you would zoom in and out on a smartphone.

Kindle Paperwhite audio feature allows seniors to listen to audiobooks. Seniors can easily go back and forth between reading and listening. When their eyes get tired, they can switch to listening from the same place where they left off reading.

There are plenty of customization options for formatting, including nine font levels of boldness, page spacing, margins, and alignment adjustment.

Paperwhite comes with built-in front light - five LEDs uniformly illuminate a screen when reading in dimmer conditions. A person can manually adjust the brightness and contrast of the screen. Since the resolution of the screen is 300 PPI, it offers clear and glare-free reading.

One hand reading books on Kindle Paperwhite is easy even for seniors since Paperwhite is one of the lightest readers - it weighs only 6.4 oz (182 g).
